Case Study: Engineering Confidence

Obtain meaningful, valid results

The Problem

Engineering simulations are nice, but who cares? Computer models are useless if they're not right. Many software packages claim to be useful to foundries, so what's different about Arena-flow?

The Solution

The difference is that Arena-flow is designed specifically to model the filling and curing of sand cores and molds. We don't try to do everything - we do one thing - and do that well. As a result, Arena-flow is continually evaluated against the latest foundry data and real-world cores. Validation occurs against high-speed video data, pressure data, air flow data, CT scan data, density plug data and production foundry data, including both in-house data and proprietary customer data.

The Cost-Savings

With all that validation, customers still put Arena-flow to the test - that's OK, we welcome the challenge. One customer had a very complicated, heat-exchanger core with a consistent miss-fill defect under certain process parameters. The Arena-flow calculation predicted both the location of the problem as well as the underlying air flow at cause! With that kind of engineering confidence, the variability of new tooling start-up costs or process modification costs are greatly reduced.

Your Foundry Application

Who designs your tooling? How much iteration is required to obtain good cores when new machinery is commissioned? How confident are you that a proposed change will fix a problem - and not create a new one. Contact us to add more confidence to your sand core engineering process.
