Arena-flow Wins AFS Applied Research Award
March 29, 2010
CastEXPO 2010, Orlando, Florida
Arena-flow LLC and General Motors have been named dual recipients of the 2010 AFS Applied Research Award for their joint research activities.
The AFS Applied Research Award rewards the Principle Investigators of AFS funded research projects and the companies that collaborate with them to transfer research and technical development to the metalcasting industry and actively apply research on the factory floor. The emphasis of this award is on practical research that directly addresses pressing technical problems faced by metalcasting facilities, the speed with which the research is transferred into shop floor applications and the collaborative role in developing and implementing technology.
AFS has recognized both the efforts of Arena-flow LLC and GM Casting Operations as dual recipients of the 2010 AFS Applied Research Award. As is often the case, successful technology transfer requires a collaborative effort between the researcher and operating foundry. Those who are able to see the potential benefits, take the risks and spend the time and effort to develop the technology are often the casting user and not the researcher. By recognizing both the customer and researching organization, AFS honors the cooperative effort that required the input and intellectual endeavors o multiple parties to create a success.
